My Seven-Minute, No-Cost Kitchen Transformation

I love the look of open shelving in a kitchen. To me, it’s a perfect marriage of form and function.

There is just something so simple and appealing about it that makes my heart go pitter pat.

So I thought, “I could do that!”

Next thing I knew, I was rounding up all my white dishes, arranging them in my kitchen cabinets until I was happy.

Then I grabbed a screwdriver and got to work taking the doors off.

Yep. I took the doors right off the hinges.

And exactly seven minutes later, this is what I had:

 I. LOVE. IT.

It took almost no time at all and didn’t cost a cent.

I was so happy!

There’s only one problem…

…my husband hated it.

(gasp)

So, after we had a small argument calmly discussed it, I put the doors back on out of respect for him.

So now it looks like this again:

Which, for the record, I still like.

And no doubt I won’t have to worry about what the INSIDE of my cupboards look like before anyone pops over. Sigh.

Lessons learned:

• in the future, ask your husband before you decide to remove ANY doors, and
• after you’ve talked about it, don’t bring it up again. Ever.

Decorating is about taking risks. Tweaking and rearranging until you find what works for you (and your husband) is part of the fun.

For me, anyway:)

But as with anything in life – sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
