Day 3: Unplug (for a little while)

Source

Yes, you read that right. Today, let’s unplug for just a little bit.

If you’re like most people, you’re usually connected to some type of electronic device for most of your waking hours – cell phone, computer, mp3, TV, video game, camera, etc. Instead, take a break and go do something that doesn’t require electricity, batteries or both.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • pick up a real live book and read
  • take a walk and get some fresh air
  • play a game with your kids
  • bake some cookies
  • paint your nails
  • write out a Bible verse and start to memorize it
  • chat with a neighbor
  • pull some weeds in your garden or flower beds
  • pick out a new recipe to try later in the week
  • clean out your purse
  • put a dent in the mending pile
If you are exhausted, take a nap. Or, better yet, take the next half hour and go work on a neglected hobby – you know, something you really enjoy, but haven’t done in a while. Scrapbooking, drawing or even playing an instrument all come to mind. Keep your brain sharp and work on a crossword puzzle, if that’s your thing.
You may be thinking, “Why on earth did you suggest this on a Monday?”

Because I’ve found that how I spend my Monday sets the tone for the week.  I generally try to stay at home on Mondays and catch up on the laundry. Errands and other appointments get scheduled for Tuesday through Friday in the afternoon, so I can focus on school. Of course, staying at home all day every Monday, is not always possible, but that’s my goal. When I do this, I find that my week goes much more smoothly.

Miss a day? All the rest of the 31 Days to Vintage Living are posted here.

  1. Unplugging is so important. I wonder how less stressed we’d be if we weren’t plugged in all the time. If we took time to breathe and take in life around us.

    Popping over from 31Days. 🙂
