It’s been raining here almost nonstop for days. I’m not complaining, just trying not to go crazy with my twin eight-year-olds now that we are finished with school🙂
Let’s see…we ate breakfast, played instruments, cleaned up some, did some laundry, read some of our book, ate lunch, watched a little tv, had quiet time, played board games – and it’s only 2:00 p.m.
A quick search through last month’s Family Fun magazine and I knew what we could do.
Make some goo.
It’s incredibly easy to make. Just mix together:
- 3/4 C of warm water
- 1 C of white glue (44 cents for two bottles from my back-to-school supply stash)
- a few drops of green (or other color) food coloring
In another bowl, combine:
- 4 tsp of borax (found in the laundry detergent aisle)
- 1 1/3 C warm water
Pour the contents from the first bowl into the second and let it sit for one minute without stirring.
Then you have a couple of happy campers:
Hmmm…I’m not sure why he has that sinister smile on his face…
This kept them occupied for a total of 45 minutes. To which I said, “Thank you, Jesus!”
My only rule was that they had to stay at the table. And amazingly, they did.
I was so giddy that I a whole 45 minutes of uninterrupted time that I made up a corny little rhyme…
What do you do
when you can’t go outside?
Make some goo
and keep your kids occupied.
Ok, enough with the silly rhymes from this sleep-deprived mom. Just keep this trick in your back pocket when your kids are really bored and you are really desperate!
We love Goo! We made that this winter. I actually made a couple of batches and sent some for each child in Emerson’s preschool class for her half birthday celebration! 🙂 Such fun – and even better when it entertains them for 45 minutes! 🙂

Thought of you and the boys when I saw this. I don’t know if it would be too boring for them though. The goo looks fun!
