Easy, Frugal, Thoughtful Ways to Honor Your Mom

Even though my own mother is gone, I have a few suggestions on some thoughtful ways you can make your mom feel special on her big day.

(This Sunday, May 8 is Mother’s day, just in case you didn’t already know:)

If you don’t have a lot of money, do something thoughtful:

  • invite her closest girlfriends to a surprise brunch and ask each person to make one of the dishes:  egg or french toast casserole, bacon, fresh fruit and coffee cake
  • husbands: be her handyman for the day without complaining (LOVIN’ this one)
  • offer to weed her garden
  • wash and detail her car
  • write her a letter and tell her much she means to you

If you’d prefer to give her a gift:

  • for the cook – get her a set of fresh herbs and put them in colorful pots
  • for the gardener – buy her a climbing rose or flowering vine and a trellis
  • for the photographer – buy her a book of beautiful images of something she’s interested in or a photography magazine
  • for the tea (or coffee ) lover – purchase some organic tea or coffee in a beautiful tin she can use again
  • for the mom who loves to be pampered – a gift certificate for a manicure or a pedicure

Other tried-and-true-but-still-lovely gift ideas:

  • something she wouldn’t buy for herself – maybe her favorite perfume or a plush robe
  • bubble bath and a candle
  • a piece of jewelry, and

…what list would be complete without…chocolate!

I miss my mom and would love to have one of her hugs right now. No matter what your relationship has been in the past, make sure you thank her for being your mom and give her a big hug!
