Life in today’s world is really complicated.
Why is it that sometimes the simplest things are the hardest ones to accomplish?
I don’t know the answer to that question, but I have discovered a way to enjoy a few of the simple pleasures in life:
Slow. Down.
We’ve all heard this before. But how many of us actually do it?
How many of us miss some of the beauty in the every day because we are in a perpetual hurry?
I know I do.
To remind myself to slow down, I’ve compiled a short list off the top of my head of a few ways I can savor some of life’s simple pleasures. All of which are free.
- a cup of freshly brewed tea to start the morning
- a spontaneous hug from one (or both) of my sons
- looking up and seeing the stars on a cloudless night
- getting a handwritten note in the mail that was completely unexpected
- a nice warm bath when the house is quiet
- a thoughtful gesture from my spouse
- the way the air smells at the first hint of spring
- looking in my closet for something to wear and seeing that my favorite jeans are clean
- putting my hand in the pocket of those same jeans and finding a $5 bill I’d forgotten about
- curling up in my favorite chair with a good book
- a Sunday-afternoon nap
What would be on your list?
Lovely reminder thankyou. I always find walking around the garden, taking time to look at the new growth is great for slowing down. And just taking a moment to breath.
Love that suggestion. It’s going on my list! Thanks for stopping by…
I crave simplicity, too! Soon it will be warm weather and my hubs and I can sit on our front porch in the evening with our dog and relax! That is my favorite thing. Great post! Take Care.
